Dr. Soroush Sabbaghan is an Associate Professor at the Werklund School of Education and the Educational Leader in Residence in Generative AI at the Taylor Institute for Teaching and Learning, University of Calgary. His work explores the intersection of language education, educational technology, and ethical innovation, with a particular focus on how generative AI can support more inclusive, learner-centered educational practices. Dr. Sabbaghan leads several projects and authored academic publications that examine how students and educators engage with co-designed generative AI tools. His projects are widely recognized for foregrounding human-centered design and addressing the social, pedagogical, and ethical implications of AI in education. He is the editor of the volume Navigating Generative AI in Higher Education: Ethical, Theoretical and Practical Perspectives, and contributes to public discourse and policy development around AI literacy, assessment, and access in Canadian education. With a background in second language teaching and mathematics education, Dr. Sabbaghan brings a grounded and practical lens to how school can navigate generative AI to support teaching, learning, and equity across K–12 contexts in Canada. | Dr. Alec Couros, a Professor of Educational Technology and Media, currently serves as the Director of the Centre for Teaching and Learning at the University of Regina. Internationally acclaimed for his groundbreaking work in open education, networked learning, digital citizenship, artificial intelligence, and critical media literacy, Dr. Couros has inspired audiences worldwide through his prolific workshops and presentations. Dr. Couros has quickly emerged as a leader in understanding and exploring the implications of AI in our schools in our lives and in society. |
Attendees: We plan to host up to 50 different school boards and up to 150 participants with a maximum of 3 participants per board. We will reach out to those wanting to send additional participants if spaces are available.
Accommodations: Hotel options are located both in Surrey, which is 10 minutes from the conference as well as downtown Vancouver. We will be providing transportation to and from downtown for those who choose this option. Hotel prices in Surrey range from $225-$325 (Sheraton and Civic Autograph) and downtown hotels range from $329-$369 (Sheraton and Westin Bayshore).

Costs: ALP is working with sponsors to cover meals and transportation to and from the event. Each participant / board is responsible for travel and accommodation expenses.
Before the Event: There will be a dinner planned for September 30th for CEOs/Superintendents/Directors of Education and their spouses/partners.
