DESCRIPTION:In this session\, we will unpack the term culturally responsiveness and how it translates globally\, locally\, and personally in education.  Participants will have an opportunity to explore the work of Zaretta Hammond\, Dr. Gholnecsar (Gholdy) Muhammad\, Dr. Geneva Gay\, and Gloria Ladson Billings among others.  As educators we are called to empathize and inquire into the assets and challenges students bring to the learning in order to provide rigorous instruction.  Often times for students of color\, English language learners\, and other underserved populations’ assets are overlooked.  As a result rigor is often missing in these classrooms.  Attend this session to see how culturally responsive teaching empowers students to ask questions and expand understanding of the world\, beyond school walls.
